In January 2017 the heats for the Enterprise Challenge began at several primary schools from the Academy Transformation Trust.
The programme was developed by Sarah Finnigan of Steps Ahead Training (www.stepsaheadtraining.co.uk). It was delivered by Connect Education and Business with support from several volunteer employers including RAF Marham, Moth in a Shop, DWP and RAF Honington. Each school had a day of designing new products and presenting these products to the team of employers who had the difficult task of selecting the winners to attend the final.
On Thursday 23rd March the final day arrived, all the schools that had taken part in the heats sent there winning teams.
The day started with a treasure hunt with Mr Winn (Vice Principal) around ICENI Academy. This was a great way to help the Year 5's find there way around in preparation for the sometimes daunting move to Upper School. After a brief break the finalists settled down and Sarah introduced the Design and Enterprise Challenge, the year 5's quickly started creating new products and building models to showcase their ideas.
After a couple of hours they were ready to present to our guest employers. Each team did a 2 minute presentation with their ideas, showing and describing the products, there were some excellent innovative ideas- Dragons Den contestants of the future!
After 8 great presentations the top 3 teams were selected and were thrilled with their prize of a trip to RAF Marham. All finalists that took part received a prize for taking part.
Overall everybody was incredibly impressed with how polite all the pupils were, and how they were respectful to the visitors and each other. We were delighted with their enthusiasm, effort and creativity on the day that brought their ideas to life. It was really wonderful to be part of the day.
