Norfolk and Suffolk Health Ambassadors        https://hee.nhs.uk/healthambassadors

Health Education England want to raise young people’s awareness and understanding of Health careers.  As part of a Widening Participation programme, the Health Ambassadors scheme encourages people working and/or studying in healthcare to volunteer one hour per year to speak in schools about their roles, or participate in careers events and activities.

Health Ambassadors act as role models to young individuals, offering them the chance to find out about jobs and apprenticeships within healthcare. They are expert healthcare professionals involved in a programme of working with schools, colleges and job centre plus across Norfolk and Suffolk. This may include:

  • Giving presentations to a diverse group of people
  • Offering guidance and advice on the health industry and its many and varied career opportunities at a careers event
  • Helping to facilitate workshops and work experience programmes and possibly becoming a mentor if you have the skills and interest

The aim of the Health Ambassadors East project is to bring healthcare professionals together with a diverse group of people to talk about job opportunities within the healthcare sector. Health Ambassadors East forms part of regional workforce planning. The NHS needs to ensure it has a skilled workforce that can deliver high-quality patient care in the future.

The one hr sessions involve looking at patient pathways scenario exploring the different patient health conditions and identify the multiple job roles needed to complete the pathway successfully. These journeys will help inspire activities including; making posters about health professions, explore the different roles within an acute, community, mental health and GP practice setting and identify skills and qualities needed for these roles. They also have interactive leaking wounds etc.
